Saints confirm 7 assistant coaches will miss Sunday's game due to COVID-19

The New Orleans Saints will indeed be missing more than half their offensive coaching staff on Sunday.

The team confirmed Friday that offensive assistants Jim Chaney, Declan Doyle, Phil Galiano, Curtis Johnson, Brendan Nugent, Dan Roushar, and Joel Thomas will not be in attendance for the team's game against the Carolina Panthers, due to to COVID-19 protocols.

In that group, you have the Saints' senior offensive assistant/wide receivers coach, run game coordinator/tight ends coach, offensive line coach, running backs coach, offensive assistant and offensive analyst, as well as the assistant special teams coach.

The Saints noted that those coaches' responsibilities will be split between the remaining offensive staff, but that group is, at this point, only offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, quarterbacks coach Ronald Curry, offensive line assistant Zach Strief, assistant to the head coach, Kevin Petry and offensive assistant D.J. Williams.

The Saints were reported earlier this week to have had six offensive assistants test positive for COVID-19. Star wide receiver Michael Thomas was also placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Saints head coach Sean Payton had said before the season that his entire staff had been vaccinated, per USA Today.
