Saint James girls soccer takes home Class 1A-3A state title in Katie Brightwell's final game

HUNTSVILLE — Saint James girls soccer rolled from the start in the Class 1A-3A state final game against Donoho.

The Trojans went on to win 3-0 in the final game of Katie Brightwell's career.

With goals from Brightwell, Molly Phillips and Kaylin Corley the Trojans jumped on Donoho before the game's first hydration break. It was a lead the Trojans never relinquished. In that time period the Trojans had six shots, all by the goal scorers. The Trojans had other attempts but were unable to score after the third goal.

It was the final game for the Trojans standout Brightwell. She set the AHSAA all-time career goal mark earlier this season, when she crossed the 233 goal mark in her career in a win over Alabama Christian Academy.

It was also the last game in Class 1A-3A for the Trojans, who are moving up to Class 4A due to the competitive balance factor. After making the state finals for the last two seasons, the Trojans accumulated enough points to force a move up.
