Rutgers Football 2024 recruit Matthew Ogunniyi’s film study
Rutgers football continues its strong recruiting trend for its 2024 recruiting class with the early May commitment of tight end Matthew Ogunniyi. The three-star prospect from Charles Herbert Flowers High School (Upper Marlboro, MD) is one of two tight ends to commit to Rutgers football’s 2024 recruiting class.
Ogunniyi received Power Five offers from West Virginia and Rutgers to go along with offers from Temple and Texas A&M. Rutgers tight end coach Andrew Aurich recruited the Maryland prospect, providing his verbal commitment on May 1.

As a junior, Ogunniyi recorded eight receptions for 286 yards and five touchdowns in seven games for the Jaguars. According to 247Sports, Ogunniyi is No. 56 tight end in the nation and the No. 25 overall prospect in Maryland among his recruiting class. Ogunniyi has the potential to be an outstanding addition to the Rutgers offense. The 2024 recruit has a 5.5 recruiting rating (three stars), according to Rivals.com.

Ogunniyi is an under-the-radar recruit who can make big plays. At 6-foot-5 and 205 pounds, he has the potential to play wide receiver or a tight end at the Big Ten level. Unlike Rutgers’ other 2024 tight-end recruit Monte Keener, Ogunniyi has a ton of speed. He is going to be a match-up nightmare for opposing defenses.

The 2024 prospect has excellent hands and can rack up yardage after the catch. Ogunniyi can line up anywhere on the field, causing favorable mismatches for the offense. Also, Ogunniyi can run multiple route combinations, making him versatile in different offensive sets.
Recruited as a tight end, Ogunniyi might find himself playing wide receiver at the Power Five level. His blocking ability is limited, and his strength is questionable, making him a better wide receiver. Regardless, Ogunniyi’s athleticism will be an offensive weapon for Rutgers football in the future.
