Roundup: Utica softball wins wild eight-inning game at Heath

Kaitlin Evans hit two home runs and racked up five RBIs Friday, powering the Utica softball team to an 18-17 victory in eight innings at Heath in Licking County League-Cardinal Division play.

Emily Meyers, Hannah Shaver and Karleigh Lees also homered for Utica (5-5, 4-5) with Meyers scoring five runs and driving in five. Shaver and Cheyenne Smith added three hits, a run and two RBIs apiece, Lexi Wiegand two hits and four runs and Lauren Schmitt four hits and an RBI.

Kylie Green, Kyndall Spicer and Sydney Cottrell homered for the Bulldogs (9-6, 4-3) with Spicer and Cottrell driving in four runs apiece and Green and Savannah Lawson three apiece. Spicer recorded five hits, and Savannah Lawson scored four runs.

Newark wins on road

Lexi Shanaberg and Lillyana Holmes each homered and doubled, piling up seven hits, five runs and eight RBIs, sparking Newark in a 12-7 victory at Pickerington Central (2-9, 2-5) in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.

Paige Simons tripled and scored three runs for the Wildcats (7-8, 4-3), and Savannah Woody and Mallory Back added two hits, a run and an RBI. Carissa Stilts struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings.

NC wins at Northridge

Brooklyn Kurtz doubled and singled and knocked in three runs for Newark Catholic in a 16-6 victory at Northridge in LCL-Cardinal play.

Joanna Bailey added two hits and three runs, Maris Knowlton and Avery Nagel two hits and two runs apiece and Kami Diaz and Kylie Gibson a home run and three RBIs apiece for the Green Wave (11-5, 6-3). Aly Rothweiler and Jahni Whitney combined to allow no earned runs in 4 2/3 innings of relief.

Ellie Reese homered and singled, scoring two runs and driving in two for the Vikings (2-10, 0-7). Gracie Smith added a hit, a run and an RBI and Kaitlyn Angus and Cheyann Severance a hit and a run apiece.

Granville wins

Alyssa Guglielmi homered as a part of a perfect 4 for 4 day, scoring twice and driving in three for Granville in a 9-1 victory at West Muskingum.

Emily Travis added three hits and two runs, Sophia Patena two hits and a run and Ally Ernsberger a double and three RBIs for the Blue Aces (16-2). Ernsberger struck out 14 in a five-hitter.

Watkins wins twice

Watkins Memorial beat Zanesville (0-11, 0-8) 18-0 and 21-0 in LCL-Buckeye play.

Maleya Thompson homered and doubled and drove in four runs, and Kendal Tellings added two hits, three runs and two RBIs and Carsyn Cassady two hits, including a double, a run and two RBIs in the first game for the Warriors (14-0, 8-0). Cortney Dobbs homered and tripled and matched Ava McKee with five RBIs, and McKee totaled four hits with Grace Whitman and Jillian Harris each adding three hits and combining for seven runs in the second game.

Johnstown drops game

Brooklynne Siegel's recorded both Johnstown hits and scored a run in a 7-2 loss to Hilliard Bradley at Ontario.

Jenna Hochanadel scored a run, and Aubrey Del Cecato and Emily Yanczura each drove in a run for the Johnnies (3-9).

BASEBALL

Heath beats Utica

Wyatt Binckley struck out seven and did not allow an earned run in a five-hitter, pitching Heath to a 5-1 victory against visiting Utica in LCL-Cardinal play.

Tannar Patterson led the Bulldogs (10-1, 6-0) with two hits and two RBIs. Riley Baum and Hayden Woodward each hit a solo home run, and Kaden Green doubled, scored twice and drove in one.

Tyler Collura doubled and singled and scored a run for Utica (5-7, 3-4). Gaige Spray added a single and a walk.

Lakewood wins at Johnstown

Luke Pierce recorded two hits and two runs and Mason Sprankle two hits and two RBIs, fueling Lakewood in a 7-2 victory at Johnstown in LCL-Cardinal play.

Jalen White added a hit and two runs and Carson Anderson a hit and two RBIs for the Lancers (10-2, 6-1). William Marrero struck out seven in six four-hit innings.

Jack Herman had a hit, a run and an RBI for the Johnnies (3-6, 1-3). Erik Marohl added two hits, and Conner Sullivan struck out two and allowed two hits and two runs in three innings of relief.

NC wins on road

Nathan Riggleman struck out two in four three-hit innings before Kane Stephey struck out seven in three three-hit innings, pitching Newark Catholic to a 12-2 victory at Northridge in LCL-Cardinal play.

Bryan McAnally and Cooper Leibas led the Green Wave (6-5, 4-3) with two hits and three RBIs apiece. Troy Johnston and Mikey Hess added two hits and two runs apiece.

Noah Mason recorded three hits and an RBI for the Vikings (1-14, 0-7). Riley Reeves and Samuel Richey added a hit and a run apiece.

Watkins wins on road

Trent Johnson piled up three hits, two runs and four RBIs for Watkins Memorial in a 13-0 victory at Zanesville (1-9, 0-7) in LCL-Buckeye play.

Noah Ciotti doubled twice, scored twice and drove in a run for the Warriors (9-4, 6-1), and Tyler Vincent added a hit, two runs and an RBI and Brayden Windnagel a hit and two RBIs. Luke Smith struck out six in a two-hit five-inning shutout.

Granville wins

Jakob Culver struck out three in three no-hit innings of relief for Granville in a 6-4 victory against visiting Ridgewood.

Theo Talbott led the Blue Aces (6-4) with two hits and two RBIs. Jacob Smith, Cy Sims and Cooper Silverman each doubled, scored a run and drove in one.

TRACK

Heath boys win

Brayden Bayles leaped 21-feet-11.75 in the long jump, leading the Heath boys to the team championship during the Sarah Robinson Relays at Lakewood.

Bayles joined Joshua Jones (18-0.75) in winning the long jump and also joined Ryan Baker, Tucker See and Jacob Lane in winning the distance medley 11:05.04. Baker, See, Lane and Joe Ward won the 3,200 relay (8:58.47), Carter Higgins (46-2.5) and Reece Shriner (45-11.5) the shot put, Jones (5-8) and Jaxon Duston (5-8) the high jump and Tyler Hudson (11-6) and Carter Wiley (9-0) the pole vault for the Bulldogs, who totaled 94 points, finishing ahead of Mount Vernon's 85.

Licking Heights' Alex Amartey (153-8) and Alieu Touray (134-5) won the discus. In the girls meet, Heights' Sabrina Bauer (15-0) and Kourtney Nicole-Rose (13-11) won the long jump, and Bauer joined Emma French, Olivia Fink and Julia Lewis on the winning 800 relay (1:54.89) as the Hornets totaled 66 points to take runner-up, trailing Mount Vernon's 108.

Utica's Katie Reed (31-1.5; 101-3) and Maya Smith (24-7.5; 79-8) won the shot put and discus, and teammates Hailey Wygle (7-6) and Reagan Farrell (6-6) won the pole vault.

Watkins boys win pair

John Apel, Joe McIntosh, Troy Blankenship and Elijah Hardiman ran a time of 43.02 to win the 400 relay for Watkins Memorial, and Apel, McIntosh and Hardiman joined Adam Brazier on the winning sprint medley (1:33.68) during the Fulton Relays at Lancaster.

Granville's Jack Johnson had the top distance in the hammer throw (140 feet).

In the girls meet, Granville's Charlotte Turner (16-0.5) and Nora Carrington (15-11.5) won the long jump, and Sophia Poling, Sydney Lauffer, Olive Dorman and Kara Bergeron matched them in the distance medley (13:09.77).

BOYS TENNIS

Newark drops match

Newark (4-2, 2-1) fell 5-0 at Pickerington Central in OCC-Buckeye play.
