Roundup: Northridge baseball beats Danville for first win of season

Noah Mason and Braden Yoder recorded a hit and two runs apiece out of the top two spots in the order Saturday, igniting the Northridge baseball team in an 8-7 victory against visiting Danville.

David Carr added two hits, a run and an RBI, Andrew Shay a double and two RBIs, Braxton Ankrom a hit, a run and an RBI, Bridger Burcham a hit and a run and Samuel Richey a hit and an RBI for the Vikings (1-10). Mason also struck out two and allowed no earned runs in four four-hit innings.

Newark wins pair

Newark beat visiting Central Crossing 12-0 in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play and later beat Licking Heights 11-2.

Aidan Hamilton recorded two hits, two runs and two RBIs, Bodie Smith two hits, three runs and an RBI, Dakota Foltz two hits, a run and an RBI and Noah Edwards a double and two RBIs against the Comets. Thomas Olon struck out six in four two-hit innings.

Moses Crane totaled two hits, two runs and two RBIs, Foltz two hits and three runs, Blane Sturm a double, two runs and two RBIs and Smith two hits and a run for the Wildcats (6-4, 5-1) against the Hornets. Evan Humphrey struck out five and allowed no earned runs in five four-hit innings, and Cale Saunders struck out three in two scoreless innings of relief.

Kaleb Ribbing had a hit, a run and a RBI and Carson Johnson two hits and an RBI for Heights (3-4).

Heath wins at home

Connor Corbett homered and doubled, knocking in two runs for Heath in a 5-3 victory against visiting Ridgewood.

Conner Toomey added a hit and a run and Riley Baum and Kaden Green a hit and an RBI apiece for the Bulldogs (7-1). Baum struck out nine in a five-hitter.

Lakewood sweeps

Lakewood beat visiting John Glenn 11-1 and 2-1.

Carson Anderson totaled two hits, two runs and an RBI, Peyton Tichenor two hits, a run and two RBIs and Jalen White and Carter Davis two hits and two runs apiece for the Lancers (8-1) in the first game. Davis struck out three in five four-hit innings.

White, Colton Ferry and Luke Pierce combined to strike out four in a no-hitter in the second game. Nate Gall’s two-run double in the third inning scored Anderson and Tichenor.

GCA rolls

Gabe White hit three doubles and knocked in five runs for Granville Christian in a 15-5 victory against visiting Madison Christian in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Bentley Johnson and Jake Fabbro added four hits and three runs apiece, combining for five RBIs and Aidan Rhoads two hits and three runs for the Lions (4-2, 2-0). Johnson struck out seven in five five-hit innings.

Utica nipped

Aidyn Burgess struck out five in five two-hit innings for Utica in a 1-0 loss at Hamilton Township.

Chase Bennett singled for Utica (3-5).

NC edged late

West Jefferson (8-1) scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and one more in the eighth, sending visiting Newark Catholic to an 11-10 loss.

Owen Przymierski notched two hits and four RBIs, and Miller Hutchison, Troy Johnston and Mikey Hess added two hits and two runs each for the Green Wave (4-4).

Watkins falls

Cole Massie’s two hits led Watkins Memorial in a 10-0 loss at Mount Vernon as five unearned runs in the first inning put the Warriors (6-3) in an early hole.

SOFTBALL

NC wins three

Newark Catholic beat host Bishop Hartley 7-5 and 25-2 and Liberty Union 7-5.

Kylie Gibson tripled and doubled and scored two runs, and Maris Knowlton added a hit, a run and three RBIs and Emma Lohri a hit, a run and two RBIs in the first game against Hartley. Gibson hit for the cycle in the second game against Hartley, driving in four runs, and Avery Nagel matched her with four hits.

Kami Diaz homered and doubled, recording three hits, two runs and three RBIs against the Lions, and Gibson added three hits and two runs, Joanna Bailey two hits, a run and an RBI and Veronica Bailey three hits and an RBI for the Green Wave (7-4). Aly Rothweiler allowed no earned runs in two innings of relief.

Newark wins twice

Newark beat visiting Logan 11-9 and Canal Winchester 14-10.

Mallory Back was 4 for 4 with a run and three RBIs, and Paige Simons and Audrey Lennon added two hits, two runs and two RBIs apiece and Lauren Queen and Lexi Shanaberg two hits, a run and an RBI each against the Chieftains for the Wildcats (5-6). Carissa Shilts struck out four and allowed two earned runs.

Simons homered, Back, Lillyana Holmes and Lennon combined for seven hits and scored three runs each, and Amora Spring added three hits and two RBIs against Canal.

Lakewood wins at home

Rachel Crist racked up four hits, three runs and an RBI for Lakewood in a 13-3 victory against visiting Centerburg.

Riley Williams and Jaycie Montie added three hits and two runs apiece with Williams knocking in two runs, and Dani Stewart homered with three RBIs and Cora Redman doubled with four RBIs for the Lancers (7-3). Stewart struck out three in four four-hit innings.

Valley wins on road

D’Neya Dennis totaled four hits and a run out of the leadoff spot for Licking Valley in an 8-2 victory at Fredericktown.

Addison Justice added two hits, two runs and an RBI, Abbe McNabb a double, a run and three RBIs and Taylor Penick a double and two runs for the Panthers (5-5). Tori Baughman struck out six in six innings.

Heath splits

Heath beat host Olentangy Liberty 12-7 after falling 18-3 to Centerville.

Sydney Cottrell and Kyndall Spicer each homered, with Spicer totaling four hits and four RBIs and Cottrell five RBIs for the Bulldogs (8-4) against Liberty, and Shelby Moore added three hits and two RBIs and Kylie Green two hits and two runs. Moore also struck out 11.

Johnstown drops two

Johnstown lost 11-1 and 15-6 at Tri-Valley.

Jenna Hochanadel doubled and singled and drove in a run in the first game for the Johnnies (3-5). Peyton Mischel totaled two hits, two runs and two RBIs, Hochanadel two doubles and two runs, Makayla Fain a double, a run and an RBI and Reese Lyons a hit and two RBIs in the second game.

BOYS LACROSSE

Newark nips Canal

Late goals from Luke Samples and Drayson Peterson lifted Newark to a 3-2 victory at Canal Winchester to win the first “Thunder Chief” trophy.

Oheneba Asenso also scored, and Peterson added an assist for the Wildcats (5-3). Matt Johnson made 10 saves.

Johnstown blanks Lima Senior

McKaden Thomas’ five goals led Johnstown in a 15-0 victory at Lima Senior.

James Swick, Max Groves and Logan Brown scored two goals each and Will Taylor, A.J. Hollis, Andrew Speck and Joey Gibson one goal each with Taylor also piling up eight assists for the Johnnies (5-3). Ben Smith made four saves.

BOYS TENNIS

Watkins takes second

The host Warriors had two runner-up finishers and took runner-up in the team standings during their Watkins Doubles Invitational.

Liam Grennan and Michael Hare at No. 1 and Graham Smith and Nathan Walter at No. 2 each placed second for the Warriors.

TRACK

Diehl places twice

Alexis Diehl placed sixth in the shot put (30-feet-4) and seventh in the discus (99-4) for the Johnstown girls during Mansfield’s Mehock Relays.
