Roundup: Newark's Bolte wins season-opening tournament at Turnberry
Mitch Bolte started his golf season with a bang Friday.
The Newark senior fired a personal-best two-under par 70 at Turnberry Golf Course to win Pickerington Central's Tiger Invitational. Bolte recorded five birdies and 10 pars during his round.
Bolte finished one stroke ahead of Pickerington North's Zach Ayers and Thomas Worthington's Will Reis.
Granville's Samuel Pfau shot 75 to tie for 12th. Following him from Licking County were Granville's Alex Organ (80), Newark Catholic's Carter Hahn (82), Heath's Riley Baum (83), Granville's Brogan Burgett (84), Heath's Nash Hays (87), Newark's Grady Fields (87) and NC's Charlie Doehring (88).
NC takes fifth
Newark Catholic fired a school-record 297 to finish a strong fifth during the Chapel Hill Invitatonal.
The Green Wave finished just three strokes behind fourth-place Hilliard Davidson. Dublin Jerome won with 281.
Brian Luft, Max Vanoy and Bobby Kieber shot identical 74s. Brogan Sullivan followed with 75 and Nathan Riggleman 83.

Watkins Memorial’s Gracie James shot 74 at Blacklick Woods to tie for eighth during the PM Wave of Pickerington North’s Lady Panther Invitational.
Newark Catholic’s Samantha Spearman shot 82 and Caylee Lattimer 83 during the AM Wave.
