Roundup: Johnstown volleyball wins Westerville North tournament

The Johnstown volleyball team won all six sets Saturday to win the Westerville North Invitational.

The Johnnies (4-1) beat Chillicothe, 25-22, 25-21, the host Warriors, 25-19, 25-18, and Newark, 26-24, 25-23. Leading the way were Kylie Sharp at the net off sets from Emily Yanczura and Luciana Smith defensively on the back line.

Valley wins pair

Maddie Banks and Rylee Sensabaugh recorded nine kills apiece in Licking Valley’s victory against Ridgewood, 20-25, 25-18, 25-11.

Banks added six aces and 18 assists, Emily Bone 15 assists and Makala Bennett six kills for the Panthers (2-3), who also beat Maysville, 25-22, 25-19. Bennett had four aces, Daizi Hardbarger four kills and Audrey Adkins seven digs in the sweep.

Lakewood cruises

Aubrey Howell racked up 17 kills and 17 digs for Lakewood in a victory against Genoa Christian, 25-13, 25-12, 25-21.

Charlee Palmer added 11 kills and three aces, Josie Lynch 28 assists, Chloe Cramblitt eight assists and Danika Allen three aces for the Lancers (2-3).

Granville wins on road

Clara Wildermuth’s 15 kills boosted Granville to a victory at Upper Arlington, 25-22, 25-23, 18-25, 26-24.

M.J. Miller added seven kills, Taylor Warehime 12 assists and Olivia Priano three aces and 11 digs for the Blue Aces (3-1).

Utica takes two

Utica’s victory against Northridge, 25-17, 25-27, 25-16, completed a 2-1 mark at West Muskingum.

Alexa Gosnell and Emilee Ellis had seven kills apiece and combined for 22 assists against the Vikings. Leigha Burnett added six kills and Lexi Wiegand 13 digs for Utica (4-3).

Burnett had three kills and Hannah Shaver and Madison Yates two apiece in a victory against the host Tornadoes, 25-22, 25-19, and Macey Dearman and Makena Wilson had two kills apiece in a loss to Marietta, 25-8, 25-11.

Heath falls

Kyndall Spicer had 11 kills for Heath in a loss to Bloom-Carroll, 25-11, 25-22, 25-14.

Kinley Kaminsky added nine kills and four blocks and Ysa Barcelona and Ansley Harbage a combined 23 assists for the Bulldogs (2-2).

CROSS COUNTRY

Granville girls win title

Kara Bergeron fifth (20:20.1) and Sophia Poling ninth (20:30.9) each placed in the top, leading the Granville to the championship in the Silver Division during the Pickerington North Invitational.

Johnstown’s Reece Savage took runner-up (19:50.7). Other top finishers were Granville’s Anne Weis 17th (21:56.3), Blake Witter 19th (22:07.8) and Ava Meister 21st (22:11.1) and Newark’s Meredith Pyle 23rd (22:19.1).

In the boys race, Newark’s Ethan Stare placed sixth (17:16.7). Following him were teammate Jacob Brechbill 13th (17:30.1) and Johnstown’s Cameron Beverick 16th (17:40.6).

GIRLS GOLF

Granville takes crown

Lydia Wigal’s 79 at Hiawatha led Granville to the team championship in Fredericktown’s Freddie Invitational.

The Blue Aces totaled 324, finishing ahead of runner-up Newark Catholic’s 347.

Granville’s Hannah Higgins and Olivia Jones each shot 81 as did Utica’s Olivia Dickson. Licking Valley’s Jacqueline Gieseler added an 82, NC’s Sam Spearman and Granville’s Avery Staten 83 apiece, NC’s Caylee Lattimer and Granville’s Ansley Laidlaw-Smith 84 apiece and Valley’s Sylvie Devore 86.

BOYS SOCCER

Lakewood wins

Luke Pierce’s hat trick gave Lakewood (2-2) a 3-1 victory against Highland.

GIRLS SOCCER

Heights wins on road

Marisol Arent made three saves to preserve Licking Heights’ 2-1 win at Teays Valley.

Emma French and Savanna Cronin each scored for the Hornets (4-0).

Newark nipped

Mayci Sayre scored for Newark in a 2-1 loss to visiting Logan.

Maris Knowlton made six saves for the Wildcats (1-3-1).
