Roundup: Chillicothe tennis clinches second consecutive FAC title

TENNIS

Chillicothe 4, Jackson 1: The Cavaliers made quick work of the Ironmen on Thursday and clinched the Frontier Athletic Conference title for the second year in a row. With the win, the Cavaliers now also hold a 7-0 record in conference play.

At No. 1 singles, Kaiden Koch was defeated 0-6, 4-6, at No. 2 singles, Colin Halm won 6-2, 6-1, and at No. 3 singles, JB Maravilla won 6-3, 6-0. At No. 1 doubles, Allison Remley and Asher Pendell won 6-3, 6-1, and at No. 2 doubles, Morgan Harper and Judea Harding won 6-1, 6-2.

BASEBALL

Zane Trace 8, Piketon 1: The Pioneers picked up another Scioto Valley Conference win after defeating the Redstreaks on Thursday. Ezra Rippeth earned his second win on the mound after pitching five innings, allowing seven hits and no earned runs.

Landen Jarrell went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs, and Drew Lane picked up two hits and an RBI. Josh Young hit a double and batted in a run, and Ezra Rippeth tallied a hit and two RBIs in the win.

Cayde Conley went 3-for-4 with a double for the Redstreaks, while Zack Hannah went 2-for-3 with a double and a run.

Huntington 12, Rock Hill 0: The Huntsmen picked up steam in the third and fourth innings as they routed Rock Hill in five innings on Thursday. Seth Throckmorton pitched three and one-third innings while allowing just two hits, and Wes Taylor closed the game out on the mound while allowing just one hit.

Braylon Leach racked up a double and a triple in the win, and he also scored two runs. Corbin Long went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run, and Dalton Black hit a double, batted in two runs and scored twice. Ryan Porter went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Matthew Jordan and John Black each hit a double and scored a run, with Black also recording an RBI. Caiden Stewart went 1-for-1, batted in a run and scored once.

Waverly 3, Logan Elm 2: The Tigers picked up a big nonconference win after outlasting the Braves at VA Memorial Stadium on Thursday. Hunter Hauck got the win on the mound after throwing for four innings, striking out four and allowing just two hits.

Jamison Morton came up big for Waverly, as he recorded a hit and batted in the game-winning run to end the game 1-for-3 with an RBI. Creed Smith went 2-for-2 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base, while Hauck collected two hits including a triple. LT Jordan notched a hit and an RBI, while Alex Boles and Jase Hurd each tacked on a hit. Tanner Nichols also put up a hit and scored a run.

SOFTBALL

Westfall 22, Fairfield 7: The Mustangs put on an offensive showcase after pounding out 22 hits to rout the Lions in six innings on Thursday.

Sydney Fuller went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate, adding on a home run, four RBIs and three runs. Makayla Cook went 3-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and a run, and Grace Long went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs. Madison Kearney went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and two runs, while Ava Heath hit two doubles and scored three runs. Olivia Dumm picked up two hits and two RBIs, and Gabby Henry logged a hit, an RBI and three runs.

Dumm also got the win in the circle for Westfall. She pitched three innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out six.

VOLLEYBALL

Chillicothe 3, Northland 0: The Cavaliers worked fast and swept the Vikings 25-18, 25-11, 25-17 on Thursday night. Mercer Cutright led the team in kills after totaling 14 in the win, Daniel Rourke added five and An Nguyen put up four.

Lucas Sprague posted a team-high 17 assists, and Justin Rubia led the Cavaliers in two statistical categories after tacking on five aces and 21 digs. Landen Cox and Jeremyah Teurman added two blocks apiece, and Aaron Ballentine put up 10 assists and three aces. Isaac Herlihy ended the match with four aces, while Rey Escalera and Elijah Hardiesty both tacked on eight digs.
