Roundup: Camden-Frontier baseball and softball keep up the pace with two more wins

HILLSDALE COUNTY — If there's one big takeaway from this stacked week of baseball and softball matchups, it's that Camden-Frontier looks to be a big threat to earn a division title on both fields this season, and then compete for a district championship.

Coach Michael Conant and the future Camden-Frontier RedHawks have set the goal to repeat this year after taking the district trophy in last year's playoff race.

They continued that journey Thursday with another pair of wins, this time over the Waldron Spartans.

Camden-Frontier shut down the Waldron Spartans in a 13-3 final. Luis Castro-Thilo and Jayden Martinez pitched for the duration of the game, with Thilo earning nine strikeouts through four innings. Rodney Weir, Jase Murr and Byron Hukill had double-base hits. Weir and Thilo each had three RBIs. Conroy and Thilo had three hits.

For Waldron, Alec Shamplo had two hits, including a double, and two runs. Sam Williams had three hits, two RBIs, one run, two stolen bases and two strikeouts at the mound.

The Camden-Frontier softball team defeated the Spartans 16-4. Pitcher Elexis Landwehr once-again led the team to victory, allowing just one earned run and striking out nine. Landwehr picked up her fourth win of the season.

Senior Lexus Sigler earned her first home run of the season, a deep shot to center field that drove in two other runs. The senior had a total of three hits, four RBIs and three runs. Landwehr had three hits, one RBI and two runs. Karley Mckibbin had two hits, four RBI and four runs. Maddy Stephens had one hit, two RBI and two runs.

For the Spartans, Mackenna Burk and Kailee Kurtz each had one run. Dellashae Saxton had one hit and two runs. Madison Brockway had one hit and one RBI.

Baseball and Softball winners from pre-weekend events

It's been a tough start to the year for the Litchfield Terriers, with three losses on the year decided by one run.

However, a strong day against North Adams-Jerome earlier this week brought home a 9-2 victory. Junior Alvarez picked up the win for Litchfield, earning seven strikeouts before being relieved by Tyler Bills (three strikeouts) and Hunter Snyder (six strikeouts).

Leading the way for the Terrier scoring effort was Tyler Bills, with two hits, one RBI and two runs. Junior Alvarez had one hit, three RBIs and one run. Simon Collins had one hit and two runs. Brady Kerr had one hit, two RBI and one run. Bills and Collins each had a stolen base.

Nolan Paradine and Conner Arsenault scored a run for North Adams-Jerome. Connor Mckay and Carsen Delaney each had one hit. Mckay recorded eight strikeouts in the starting role for the Rams.

The Terriers could not capitalize on the momentum of their win later in the week, losing 6-2 to Tekonsha. Alvarez earned nine strikeouts in five innings, giving up one earned run.

Comet softball falls to Michigan Center

Jonesville baseball and softball started the week off strong winning both of their home opener games. Only the Comet softball team took the field again before Friday, playing against the Michigan Center Cardinals.

The team lost twice in 9-7 and 9-6 finals. Despite the loss, Elana Prater and Lyra Nichols both homered in game one against the Cardinals. Gracen Hager had a double-base hit and scored two runs. Nichols recorded eight strikeouts in seven innings.

Game two saw Prater earn another double-base hit, three total, and two runs. Nichols had two doubles, two RBIs and one run. Ava Kramer had two hits and RBIs. Bryn Rusk had a total of six hits and four runs through both games. Rusk recorded two strikeouts in the second game.

    • Hornet baseball fell to 2-5 on the year. Lane Pearson recorded four strikeouts and one earned run in the first game. Aaron Rebb had five strikeouts and three earned runs in game two. Vanwarmer had one hit and one RBI in game two.

  • Bronson 11, Reading 1, Bronson 10, Reading 0

    • Ranger softball pitcher Ariana McDowell recorded two strikeouts in game one and had one home run at-bat that drove in a run. Leah Headley and Aubree Ervans each had one strikeout in game two. Reading drops to 2-5.

  • Tekonsha 10, Waldron 1

    • Spartan baseball lost to Tekonsha earlier in the week. Alec Shamplo had seven strikeouts and eight earned runs in three and two-thirds innings pitched. Troy Shamplo had one hit and one run.

  • Madison 16, Hillsdale 4; Madison 19, Hillsdale 4

    • Hornet softball dropped a pair of games to Adrian Madison. Shyanne Ellsworth, Kailyn Frosch and Layla Stebbins each scored a run. Aubrey Peck had an RBI sacrifice bunt. Kunkel had a double-base hit and one run in game two. Aubrey Peck had one hit and a run.
