Roughrider Tournament: Day Two Recap
Dec. 12—KILLDEER, N.D. — Seven of Region 7 girl basketball teams are taking good advantage of early competition offered in Killdeer at the Roughriders Tournament. Day two featured stiff competition all around, with the last two teams remaining in the winner's bracket.

New England def. Richardton-Taylor

A combination of their high press system and a depth in shooters, the New England Tigers would dominate the third quarter to take a 63-40 victory over the Richardton-Taylor Raiders in the consolation semifinals.
The Olsonawski sisters and Carly Wolf each had double digits. Sophie Olsonawski scored 10 points, was 3-for-4 from the foul line and knocked down a three-point shot. Wolf would also sink a bucket from three-point range, go 2-for-2 at the line for 11 points.
After going scoreless on day one, freshman Emma Olsonawski would turn it around with a phenomenal performance. She scored the majority of the Tigers' points in the first half with five shots from downtown and had 25 points total.
Senior Hannah Frank fell just short of a triple-double on night, being short by two steals and rebound.
The Raiders' two starting seniors, Gracee Kuntz and Kora Vogle contributed a fourth of their team's points between the two of them. Vogle had two treys in the game. Sophomore AshLynn Christensen continues to show great potential, scoring 15 points and going 3-for-4 at the charity line.

It was a scrappy affair between the two Region 7 sides, who fought hard for each possession. Killdeer had the advantage with more shooters and more rebounds to hold onto the lead early on. Junior point guard Josey Andersen had a strong outing, going 4-for-5 at the line, with 10 total points. Senior Gracie Doe attacked the paint well in the first half and shot a trey, totaling nine points. Sadie Stahl also made a senior contribution, leading her team in points with 12. She also scored Killdeer's only three-pointer in the second half.
The Cougars did win the third quarter, 11-7, but it was not enough for them to topple the Cowboys. Jamie Buckman dropped 15 points, including three, three-point shots.
Bowman County def. Stanley

The Bulldogs picked up a whole lot of confidence after blowing out Stanley in the semifinals 62-27. They won the rebound game and
Bowman County had three players with double digits, senior captain, power forward, Ellie Powell led with 18 points. Powell dominated the paint and forced turnovers in aggressive fashion.
The Bulldogs' roster runs deep with shooter, junior point guard Jaci Fischer, made her biggest contribution in the second quarter with eight points. Sophomore Raegen Honeyman didn't score in the first quarter, but remained consistent for the remainder of the game to garner 16 points. Bowman County had only four fouls, while the Blue Jays had 15 total.

The final game of the night was an absolute slugfest between Beulah and Hettinger-Scranton. The Night Hawks won the second half of the game, outscoring the Miners by 10 points, with Laela Jensen and Ella Jensen throwing down buckets from out wide. They had seven three-point shots between the two of them, Laela Jensen having 29 points on the night. Despite their hot touch, Hettinger-Scranton was unable to make up the 15-point deficit they had after the first half.
