Ron Roberts to be Auburn football's next defensive coordinator | Reports

AUBURN — Ron Roberts is expected to become Auburn football's next defensive coordinator, according to reports.

Roberts, 55, has spent the last three seasons in the same role under coach Dave Aranda at Baylor. He was, however, reported to be "out" as coordinator earlier this month. He helped the Bears capture their third Big 12 title in 2021.

Before Baylor, Roberts was the defensive coordinator for two seasons at Lousiana. That stint was on the heels of an 11-year run he had as a head coach. He held the top seat at Delta State from 2007-11 and at Southeastern Louisiana from 2012-17.

A former linebacker at UT Martin in the late 1980s, Roberts got his start as a coach at Houston High School in Germantown, Tennessee, from 1990-93, where he served as the defensive coordinator. He broke into the college ranks in 1997 at Greensboro, and had subsequent stops at Tusculum and Texas State.

Roberts went 47-16 as the coach at Delta State and 42-29 at Southeastern Louisiana. Aranda was the defensive coordinator for Roberts in 2007 at Delta State.
