Rockledge track & field sweeps Cape Coast Conference meet for 2024

TITUSVILLE That's a baker's dozen of domination for the Rockledge High girls track and field team, and the boys were pretty good, too.

At the 2024 Cape Coast Conference track and field meet, both won team championships by comfortable margins, the girls claiming the trophy for the 13th consecutive year.

The Raiders took first place in eight girls events and had a total of 214 points, followed by second-place Satellite with 102.

Jaida Williams-Goins won two individual events for Rockledge, the 100-meter hurdles in 13.96 seconds, and the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 3 1/4 inches. Teammate Leigha Clark won the 100 in 12.10 seconds and the 200 in 25.2.

Astronaut's Alana Gibbons was another double winner of individual events, taking the shot put at 36-7 and the discus (103-9). Viera's Addison Elwell won the 1,600 in 5:07.4 and the 3,200 in 11:23.57.

On the boys side of the meet, the Raiders finished first with 147 points, and Viera claimed second with 108.

Josiah Allen's 188-foot javelin throw was a Brevard County record and made him ninth among performers from all of Florida's four classifications this season. Ralph Smith's long jump of 24 feet, 1 3/4 inches for Titusville ranked him second in the FHSAA this year, and the 23-9 of Palm Bay's Camren Williams was No. 4.

The girls 4x800-meter relay included two teams who became top-10 FHSAA all-classification performers for the year: Satellite's 9:27.95 (run by Keira Merrick, Braelyn Wahy, Reagan Cancro and Celina Coryell), which is sixth; and Rockledge's 9:44.77 (Laila Dupuch, Ava Quattrocchi, Malinda Underwood and Nia Singleton) at No. 10.

Other statewide-top-10 performances came in the girls 4x100 relay by Rockledge (Clark, Diarri Hardison, Shadae Hawkins and Estella Allen) at 47.15 seconds to reach No. 7; and Tavon Simmons-Roberts of Cocoa in the boys 110 hurdles with a 14.56, making him No. 9.
