'The Rock' will get the Daytona 500 rolling as Grand Marshal on Feb. 18

The command to start this year's Daytona 500 will come with some added authority.

Wrestler/actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been announced as Grand Marshal for the 2024 Great American Race, scheduled for Feb. 18 at Daytona International Speedway. The Grand Marshal's chief duty is delivering the proverbial "four most important words in motorsports" — Drivers, start your engines.

The longtime wrestler and Hollywood action star joins a long and wide-ranging list of past Grand Marshals — a list including entertainers (James Garner, Owen Wilson, John Travolta), politicians (George Wallace, George Mitchell, Donald Trump), and auto industry VIPs (Semon Knudsen, F. James McDonald, Robert Stempel).
