Road America brings SVRA Vintage Festival Weekend May 17-19, and more Sheboygan news in brief

SHEBOYGAN – The SVRA Vintage Festival Weekend returns to Road America May 17-19.

The weekend lineup includes the SVRA SpeedTour, which will spotlight competitions from the Formula 4 United States Championship (F4 U.S.), Formula Regional Americas Championship (FR Americas), and the Mazda Miata Heritage Cup Series.

One of the festival’s standout events, the Hagerty Cars & Caffeine showcase, allows vintage car and motorcycle owners to display their prized possessions. Held the morning of May 18, this event offers a mix of passion for classic automobiles and coffee.

In addition to the races, attendees can enjoy a range of activities. The Paddock Shop will offer a variety of merchandise, and Road America’s concession stands will provide food and drinks.

Guests are invited to explore the Road America grounds, which feature several new enhancements, including scenic viewing trails both outside and now inside turns 9 and 10, commonly known as “The Carousel”; the overlook at Turn 11, now known as “The Bluffs”; and a new pathway leading to Turn 12 aka “Canada Corner.”

Additional amenities include a new restroom facility with showers, an RV waste transfer station at Turn 1, fresh artistic carvings around the grounds, and upgrades to “The Beach” near Turn 11.

The Briggs & Stratton Motorplex will have public karting May 17 with the Road America Karting Series on May 18 and the Road America Supermoto Series on May 19. Disc Golf will also be available all weekend.

Road America is offering free admission to all active, reserve and veteran military personnel with a valid ID for the SVRA Vintage Festival Weekend.

The gates will open at 7 a.m. daily. Tickets for a three-day weekend pass are $55, and day passes are available at $25 for May 17, $30 for May 18 and $30 for May 19. Children 16 and younger can enter for free with a paying adult. The event will proceed rain or shine according to the scheduled program.

Marine sanctuary advisory council meets in Sheboygan this week

The Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council will meet at 8 p.m. May 16 at Sheboygan City Hall, 828 Center Ave. The public is invited to attend.

The meeting agenda includes regular council business, working group reports and an update from sanctuary partners. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration staff will provide a sanctuary update.

Public comment will be taken at approximately 7:50 p.m.

LGBTQ Alliance seeks volunteers for Pride Picnic

Sheboygan County LGBTQ Alliance is seeking volunteers for the 2024 Pride Picnic, set for noon to 8 p.m. June 22 at City Green.

Volunteer shifts will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1-4 p.m., 4-7 p.m., 7-9 p.m. and 8:45-11 p.m. The last two shifts are for cleanup and after-party, respectively. Volunteer roles include setup, information booth, merch table, beer tent and perimeter/safety.

Bountiful Birds, Bird Walk and Pie Iron Demo set at Kohler-Andrae

Here’s what’s coming up at Kohler-Andrae State Park. Vehicle admission is required for each of these events. The park is at 1020 Beach Park Lane in Sheboygan and can be reached at 920-451-4080.

  • Bountiful Birds Self-Guided Quest and Geocache, 1-4 p.m. May 19: Try your hand at questing or geocaching and learn a bit about the bountiful birds of Kohler-Andrae State Park. Head to the nature center to pick up your map or check out a GPS unit pre-loaded with the coordinates for our Bountiful Birds Quest. Meet at Sanderling Nature Center, parking lot P3.

  • Discovery Bird Walk, 8-10 a.m. May 21: Meet master naturalists Janet and Andy Raddatz to observe birds and nature in the park. Walks may take two to three hours depending on what is seen. Participants can leave at any time. Wear appropriate footwear and dress for the weather. Take insect repellant, sunscreen and binoculars. Ages 12 and older; children must be accompanied by an adult. No pets. Bird walks meet weekly. Meet at the Black River Trail parking lot, P1.

  • Pie Iron Demo, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 25: Join Pudgy Pie Guy Jon Riemann for a pie iron cooking presentation in the amphitheater at Kohler-Andrae State Park. Join the fun and learn some history about cooking over fire, the sandwich and the pie iron. He’ll demonstrate how to make pizzas, Rubens, macaroni and cheese, and fruit-filled pies. Everyone will have the chance to make their own pudgy pie, so take a beverage. Meet Jon at the park amphitheater near parking lot P4.

ELG High School Band to present Concert in the Park

Take your lawn chairs, your favorite blanket and head down to Elkhart Lake Village Park for a free Concert in the Park.

The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah High School Band will present a Concert in the Park at 10 a.m. May 24. Performing will be the high school band as well as the polka ensemble.

A variety of music selections will be presented. The rain location is the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah High School Mauk Auditorium.

The community is invited to attend.
