Rhys Hoskins isn't on Phillies NLCS roster, but a World Series appearance is possible

Rhys Hoskins and Kyle Schwarber helped the Phillies reach the World Series in 2022.

Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins, the heart and soul behind the Phillies World Series push last season, will not play in the National League Championship Series, which started tonight in Philadelphia.

Hoskins was not on the Phillies' NLCS roster released Monday. The Phillies slugger is recovering from ACL surgery he had in March after injuring himself during spring training.

“He is doing pretty well,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson said according to a report on mlb.com. “He is getting live at-bats and he is getting at-bats off the Trajekt. He is running the bases. He is sliding. He is doing pretty much everything except for taking ground balls.”

Thomson previously said the World Series is a more realistic goal for Hoskins if the team were to make it.

According to mlb.com, Thomson said Hoskins, if he played, would be used as a pinch hitter during the World Series unless there were injuries.

Last season, Hoskins hit four home runs and drove in seven runs in the National League Championship Series against the San Diego Padres. He finished the postseason with six homers, nine runs and 12 RBIs.

The Phillies open the NLCS tonight against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
