RHP Harvey impresses in Reds debut

Former New York Mets ace Matt Harvey shined in his Cincinnati Reds debut on Friday, allowing just one hit in four scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Harvey struck out two and threw 55 pitches, 32 for strikes. It was his first start since being demoted to the bullpen by the Mets after a rough outing against the Atlanta Braves on April 19.

Harvey retired the first four batters he faced Friday before serving up a triple to Cody Bellinger. He struck out Chris Taylor looking for the second out of the inning and got Max Muncy to line out to end the threat.

Harvey struck out Yasiel Puig swinging to start the third and retired the next five batters in a row before exiting. He reached a season-high 95.8 mph on his fastball.

The Reds acquired Harvey from the Mets on Tuesday in exchange for catcher Devin Mesoraco and cash. Harvey was designated for assignment by the Mets last Saturday after declining to be optioned to the minor leagues.

Harvey was 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA in eight appearances (four starts) with New York this season. He reluctantly went to the bullpen after struggling as a starter, and things didn't improve.

Harvey, 29, entered Friday 34-37 with a 3.66 ERA in 109 career appearances (104 starts) since making it to the majors in 2012.
