Reyes, Bowes a winning combination
May 15—Angel Reyes Reyes and Nate Bowes were an unbeatable and unhittable combination for the Tolland High baseball team Friday.
Reyes and Bowes teamed up for a no-hitter hit as the surging Eagles blanked East Hartford 7-0 in a CCC interdivisional game at Tolland High.
Since a 1-7 start, Tolland has won five of six and is two wins away from assuring itself a spot in the state tournament.
Reyes worked the first 3Ï innings and struck out four. Bowes got the win with 3Î innings of work. He also fanned four.
Bowes also had two hits and scored two runs. Josh Blanchard also had two hits while Joey Keane drove in two runs.
The Hornets are 6-8.
Tolland is at Lewis Mills Monday. East Hartford entertains South Windsor on Wednesday.
EAST CATHOLIC 15, ENFIELD 1. In Enfield, Frank Mozzicato had three hits including a home run and five RBIs as No. 1 East Catholic rolled to a six-inning CCC East interdivisional win.
East Catholic (15-0) took a 7-1 lead with a five-run second inning and iced it with a six-run sixth. Michael Wearne had three hits. Alex Irizarry had two hits with a home run and two RBIs for East Catholic. Ryan Shaw also had two hits and two RBIs. Ryan St. Jean and Ethan Utermarck also drove in two runs.
TJ Winn was the winning pitcher. He allowed a run and two hits in five innings with eight strikeouts. Justin Chaplin accounted for the only run for Enfield (9-6) with a first-inning homer.
On Monday, East Catholic travels to Bristol Eastern while Enfield is at Platt.
MANCHESTER 10, E.O. SMITH 2. In Storrs, Mason Cycenas-Heimer scattered eight hits as Manchester made it nine straight wins in CCC interdivisional action.
Dylan Jackson had two hits and five RBIs for the Red Hawks (13-3). Gio Morales added two hits while Ben Cherry connected for a three-run homer.
Manchester is at Middletown on Monday.
RHAM 6, SOUTH WINDSOSR 4. In Hebron, Mike Poncini pitched six innings of five-hit ball in RHAM's CCC East interdivisional win. He struck out eight.
The Raptors (9-5) took the lead for good with a five-run third inning. Dan Orzech had three hits and two RBIs.
RHAM is at Maloney Monday, the same day South Windsor (3-11) travels to Berlin.
STAFFORD 9, EAST WINDSOR 8. In Stafford, Andrew McGann's two-run single keyed a tie-breaking three-run frame as the Bulldogs held on for an NCCC victory.
The win assured Stafford (8-6) a state tournament berth. After a loss to Windsor Locks on April 26, the Bulldogs were 1-5.
Mason Wilson had a RBI double in a four-run second inning and added a run-scoring triple in the third inning that gave Stafford a 6-1 lead. East Windsor (3-12) responded as Ryan Lee delivered a two-run single and Shane Ritchie added an RBI double that tied it. The score that way till the decisive sixth and a Panthers' rally in the seventh fell a run short.
Wilson and Trent Kology had two hits each for Stafford. Ritchie had three hits for East Windsor with Nic Saponare adding two.
Stafford is at Granby today. East Windsor travels to Bolton Monday.
SUFFIELD 9, ROCKVILLE 4 (8). In Vernon, after Rockville rallied for two runs to tie in the seventh inning, Suffield responded with a five-run eighth to take the win against its NCCC rival.
The game does not count towards the league standings. Rockville won the first meeting between the teams 12-6.
Anthony Mierez's two-out, two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh got the Rams (11-4) even at 4. But Suffield (5-6) would not let the game get away. Max Beaudoin, winning pitcher Sam Beaudoin, and Griffin Mandirola had two hits each for the Wildcats. Matt Ryan and Zach Clapp had two hits each for the Rams. Rockville starting pitcher allowed two runs and five hits over six innings, striking out 10.
Suffield is at HMTCA today. Rockville visits Granby Monday.
EAST GRANBY 11, BOLTON 6. In Bolton, freshman James Fagnant's grand slam in the seventh inning broke it open for East Granby (11-4) in NCCC action.
Brian Doyle and Tiarnan Doyle doubled for the Bulldogs (0-15), who play host to East Windsor Monday.
