Return (again) or retire (again): Tom Brady weighing all options for 2023

Back in February, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady retired after 22 legendary seasons in the NFL.

41 days later, he announced his return for a 23rd.

As he enters the homestretch of the 2022 campaign, Brady remains open to all possibilities beyond this season, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport:

Multiple sources close to the legendary quarterback say all options are on the table for Brady, who at age 45 feels good enough to keep playing and once again has the Buccaneers in playoff position entering today’s game against the 49ers.

The plan heading into the 2022 season had been to walk away at age 45, as Brady always imagined. But those who know him well wonder if he’s more open now than he was in early September.

Whatever decision Brady makes figures to come prior to the start of free agency in mid-March. For now, his focus remains where it normally is: winning an eighth Super Bowl ring.

Despite the offensive struggles that have plagued Tampa Bay throughout the 2022 season, Brady hasn’t been the problem, clearly proving he’s still physically and mentally able to keep playing at a high level.

If he wants to keep doing so next year, the Bucs would gladly welcome him back, but there will be plenty of other teams jumping at the chance to sign him if he becomes a free agent again.
