Centerville High School product Jonathan Powell, the only member of Xavier's 2024 recruiting class, has requested a release from the National Letter of Intent (NLI) he signed with the Musketeers, according to a report from On3 Sports' Joe Tipton. A source confirmed the news to The Enquirer.

Powell, a three-star guard, committed to Xavier in May 2023, picking the Musketeers over Clemson, Indiana, Michigan State, Ohio State and Virginia Tech. Powell inked his NLI during the early signing period in November.

The 6-foot-6 shooting guard was the second-leading scorer in the Greater Western Ohio Conference last season at 19.1 points per game. The first-team All-Ohio selection helped lead Centerville to the Division I state championship game for the second consecutive year. Powell scored over 1,700 points over his prep career at Chaminade Julienne and Centerville.

Playing time for Powell would've been difficult to find during the 2024-25 season at Xavier given the Musketeers' multiple additions via the NCAA's transfer portal over the last six weeks. His decision gives Xavier three available scholarship spots on the roster.
