Report: Tony Finau being sued for more than $16 million by former financial supporter
Tony Finau is being sued for more than $16 million by a former business associate, according to a report from the Desert News.
The lawsuit, filed last week in Utah’s third district court, claims former business associate Molonai Hola, owner of Icon Sports, provided financial support to Finau and his family for several years but was never paid back. Finau’s brother, Gipper, his father, Gary, agent Christopher Armstrong and the Wasserman Media Group are all named in the suit, as well.
“We are aware of the matter and have the utmost faith in the legal process. We will not be making further comment at this time,” Armstrong said in a statement to the Deseret News.
The expenses totaled $592,371.37 according to the suit, and Hola is asking for that amount and compensatory damages of “at least $16 million, plus interest.” The number represents approximately 20 percent of Tony’s and Gipper’s career earnings, the percentage Hola claims he was previously promised.

The suit claims Hola paid for the Finau family’s mortgage payments, medical insurance, a new car as well as golf-related travel expenses for Tony and Gipper, including living expenses for the Finau family to reside in Florida for approximately a year while they received lessons from renowned golf instructor David Leadbetter.
Finau, 31, last competed at the U.S. Open at Winged Foot, finishing T-8. Last season on Tour, Finau earned seven top-10 finishes, logging 10 top 25s in 20 events played. According to his PGA Tour profile, Finau has 20,294,565 in career earnings.
