Report: Todd Bowles expected to remain Bucs’ head coach in 2023
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn’t have the season many envisioned in 2022, but they still managed to make the playoffs despite going 8-9, which was good enough to win the NFC South and clinch a home game in the postseason.
While Todd Bowles seemed like he could be on the hot seat after one year at the helm, he’s likely to be back in 2023. According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, the Bucs are expected to retain Bowles as their head coach next season, regardless of the outcome of Monday night’s game against the Cowboys.
Bowles was promoted from defensive coordinator to head coach this season after Bruce Arians was moved into a front office role, and it wasn’t Tampa Bay’s defense that caused the team’s struggles. The Bucs ranked ninth in total yards allowed, but the offense finished 25th in points scored.
This was Bowles’ sixth season as a head coach in the NFL and he’s only finished above .500 once, which was in 2015 – his first year with the Jets.
