Cooper Manning was full of praise for Texas' starting quarterback this past weekend at the Manning Passing Academy.

That's right, according to a report from On3, Quinn Ewers was among the standout quarterbacks during Friday night's skills competition at the camp, which included the likes of North Carolina's Drake Maye, Washington's Michael Penix Jr. and Tennessee's Joe Milton. Cooper's son Arch, now a Texas freshman, was one of the few QBs who abstained from the competition.

"Remember the confident quarterback who had Alabama’s defense on its heels before he exited the game with an injury? That’s the Ewers that showed up to Friday evening’s quarterback competition in South Louisiana," On3 wrote in its recap.

Ewers had an up and down 2022 season after returning from his injury. However, the quarterback impressed in spring training, solidifying his position as starter with his performance in the Orange-White game. Meanwhile Maalik Murphy is the favorite to be the backup over Manning.

Manning also made headlines after refusing NIL money until he earns the Longhorns' starting job. If he can keep up the preseason play into the regular season, it'll be awhile until Manning's era comes around in Austin.
