Report: Texans' Watson expected back on field by OTAs

Deshaun Watson's rehab from a torn right anterior cruciate ligament "has been accelerated" and the Houston Texans believe he will be able to participate in 7-on-7 drills during organized team activities this spring, according to an NFL Network report.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Watson's tear was "very clean" and limited solely to the ACL, aiding his recovery.

Watson underwent surgery to repair his ACL on Nov. 8, six days after tearing it on a non-contact play in practice. He'll be just over six months removed from surgery when OTAs begin in mid-to-late May. The 22-year-old will likely be worked in slowly, but on-field work at OTAs would suggest he could be a full participant for the start of training camp in mid-to-late July.

Watson tore his left ACL as a freshman at Clemson and continued to play, shining in a win over South Carolina before having surgery. He returned in plenty of time for the start of the 2015 season, in which he led the Tigers to the national title game while throwing for 4,109 yards, 35 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
