Report: Special teams coordinator candidate declines Patriots’ job offer
Another major domino was close to falling for New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo’s staff, but things went in the opposite direction, according to a report from KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson on Friday.
Per Wilson, Atlanta Falcons special teams coordinator Marquise Williams was offered a position with the Patriots, but he declined their offer.
That means two things for New England: The team really is looking to move on from Cameron Achord, and offensive coordinator might not be the only tough sell for Mayo and company when filling the new coaching staff. The Patriots still have vacancies at special teams coordinator, offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator.

The Falcons just hired former Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris as their new head coach. So one has to wonder if Morris is considering keeping Williams on staff in Atlanta, following the firing of former head coach Arthur Smith.
The Patriots are still slated to interview Rams special teams assistant Jeremy Springer on Sunday, and they have also interviewed New York Giants special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey.
Both must be considered frontrunners for the job at this point after Williams declined the offer.
