Report: Patriots showing interest in Super Bowl champion defender

The New England Patriots are reportedly showing interest in a Super Bowl champion defender. Per USA TODAY’s Tyler Dragon, they are among several teams interested in Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.

The person told USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

Sneed is coming off a season that saw him record 79 tackles, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. He has been a mainstay on the Chiefs defense over the last four seasons. The two-time Super Bowl-winning cornerback was selected by the Chiefs in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft.

He was tagged with a non-exclusive franchise tag before Tuesday’s deadline, which means he has permission to seek a trade.

New England could definitely use his services, as corner depth was a problem last season. The absence of Christian Gonzalez following an October injury was felt in particular.

At 27 years of age, Sneed could be an anchor in the Patriots’ secondary for years to come. New England’s involvement with Sneed over the next couple of weeks is certainly worth monitoring.
