Report: Patriots expected to show interest in free agent WR DeAndre Hopkins

News of DeAndre Hopkins being released by the Arizona Cardinals has every team’s attention in the NFL, including the New England Patriots.

Per a source close to the situation, via FOX Sports’ Henry McKenna, the Patriots will be one of the interested teams looking to acquire the former five-time Pro Bowler’s services.

It’s no surprise considering the Patriots were believed to be one of the teams interested in trading for Hopkins in the offseason.

“The Patriots will be one of the teams to show interest in WR DeAndre Hopkins, per a source close to the situation. Given he no longer requires trade compensation or the cumbersome contract, his market should be robust,” McKenna posted on Twitter.

There will obviously be a bigger market for Hopkins now that he’s free to sign wherever he pleases without trade compensation being an issue. A move of this magnitude could drastically reshape the Patriots offense by securing an elite No. 1 wideout.

Hopkins would be the best receiving talent the team has had since Randy Moss. So at the very least, coach Bill Belichick and the team should have a real conversation about turning what was initially believed to be a pipe dream signing into reality.
