Report: Lions nearing deal with RB Gore; Blount also to visit

Ahead of his visit with the Detroit Lions, veteran running back Frank Gore is reportedly nearing a deal with the team.

The two sides are closing in on an agreement, according to a report from USA Today. Gore is set to meet with the Lions on Thursday, per ESPN. Detroit is also scheduled to meet with fellow veteran back LeGarrette Blount on Friday.

Gore and Blount are the latest candidates to make their case for improving the Lions' running game, which finished last in the NFL last season with 76.3 yards per game. Detroit already has visited with DeMarco Murray and Jonathan Stewart, who were released by Tennessee and Carolina, respectively.

Stewart has since signed with the New York Giants.

Gore, who will turn 35 in May, spent the past three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts after spending 10 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He tallied 961 rushing yards and three touchdowns in 2017. The five-time Pro Bowler is fifth in NFL history with 14,026 career rushing yards.

Blount, 31, has three career Super Bowl rings, including two with the New England Patriots and one with the Philadelphia Eagles from last season. He rushed for 766 yards and two touchdowns in 2017.
