Report indicates Badgers game in October will air exclusively on Peacock streaming service

According to longtime college-football reporter Brett McMurphy, currently of The Action Network, the University of Wisconsin football team's Oct. 7 game at home against Rutgers will be airing exclusively on the Peacock streaming service.

That's part of a new agreement with the Big Ten that offers a small number of games exclusively on the platform. Yes, you'll need a subscription to watch the Badgers in your home that week.

Here's what to know.

I need a separate Peacock subscription to watch the Badgers play Rutgers?

Yes, there is a slate of Big Ten games, starting this year, that will air exclusively on Peacock. That includes games like Michigan State at Iowa on Sept. 30, or Michigan's season opener against East Carolina.

Games that air on NBC will also be available on Peacock. But some games are just available solely on the streaming service.

For now, that includes Wisconsin's Oct. 7 game against Rutgers, though schedules are subject to change based on games flexed to other networks.

How much does it cost to get Peacock?

A monthly subscription to Peacock's premium service (which is what you'll need to watch football) is $5.99 a month or $59.99 a year.

Can I watch the game at a bar or restaurant instead?

Yes. NBC Sports has a deal with EverPass Media to distribute sports content to bars, restaurants and other commercial buildings.

When did NBC start airing Big Ten games?

Part of the new agreement (made a year ago) involves NBC in the Big Ten picture, which means there are conference games on FOX, CBS, Big Ten Network and NBC (and its streaming service, Peacock) this season. It's a seven-year agreement.

It's expected that eight games will air this season on Peacock exclusively.

Are we really going to see more sports available only on streaming services?

Considering that linear TV has fallen below 50 percent of all TV viewing, that shouldn't come as a surprise.

The NFL already streams its Thursday Night Football games exclusively on Amazon out-of-market, and Major League Baseball and AppleTV+ have an agreement for a suite of Friday night games. It's not a practice that's slowing down.

Where will other Badgers games be airing this year?
