Report: Former Wisconsin HC Paul Chryst to become Texas assistant

Steve Sarkisian is working to build an empire on the Forty Acres. Whether he will succeed remains to be seen, but the effort is clear.

Earlier we noted that former Los Angeles Rams assistant coach Joe DeCamillis would be hired as a special assistant to head coach Steve Sarkisian. It appears that’s just the beginning for Sarkisian. Orangebloods’ Anwar Richardson reports former Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst is set to assist the offense in a unique role.

The move signals humility on Sarkisian’s part given offense is his area of expertise. While Wisconsin wasn’t the model of offensive excellence in his time with the team, Chryst’s squads did well in one offensive area of concern for Texas. The Badgers could run the football.

We feel great about the running back room led by Jonathon Brooks. Yet while the offensive line has been great in pass protection, it has struggled getting a push in the running game. Given how well Chryst’s lines blocked at his last stop, he could find the right run schemes to facilitate big gains in the running game.
