Report: Cowboys get approval for Frisco practice facility
The Dallas Cowboys will be moving their practice facility from Irving, Texas, to Frisco, Texas, after the Frisco City Council and other agencies approved a financing plan for a facility in Frisco, according to television station WFAA in Dallas-Ft. Worth.
On Monday, the Frisco City Council as well as two development boards and the Frisco Independent School District board of trustees unanimously approved the $115 million financing plan for the 91-acre site, which will include a domed practice field.
The sides agreed to a 25-year deal for the Cowboys to practice in Frisco, which is about 30 miles north of Dallas.
The details will be announced at a news conference on Tuesday.
According to the report, the project will be funded from the following sources: $30 million from the city; $25 million from the Frisco Community Development Corporation; $5 million from the Frisco Economic Development Commission; $25 million for a headquarters building; $30 million from the Frisco Independent School District
The school district's involvement will allow its athletes to share the domed practice facility.
The domed stadium is expected to seat at least 12,000 fans for games and 22,000 for concerts and other events.
The Frisco School District will have use of the facility on Thursday and Friday nights for football games, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The Cowboys had an enclosed practice facility in Irving, but it collapsed during a storm four years ago and has not been reconstructed.
