REPORT: Cade McNamara to join a Big Ten school
Cade McNamara accomplished just about everything last season: beat Ohio State, won the Big Ten and helped Michigan make it to its first College Football Playoff.
But the former Michigan starting quarterback lost his starting job after Week 1 to J.J. McCarthy. Jim Harbaugh announced both quarterbacks would have a chance to showcase their abilities. McNamara started Week 1 and McCarthy started Week 2 against Hawaii. After Michigan beat Hawaii, Harbaugh announced McCarthy would be the quarterback moving forward.
McNamara was injured against UConn in Week 3 and the 2019 recruit required surgery.
On Monday, McNamara announced he was in the transfer portal.
Come Thursday, Pete Thamel reported the Iowa Hawkeyes swooped in and landed the quarterback that beat them in the Big Ten Championship game last season.

Michigan and Iowa have had recent transactions via the transfer portal. In 2015, Jim Harbaugh landed quarterback Jake Rudock from Iowa. In 2019, former Michigan receiver Oliver Martin transferred to the Hawkeyes — then transferred to Nebraska.
In three seasons playing for Michigan, McNamara totaled 3,181 passing yards, 21 touchdown passes and seven interceptions.
