Report: Alex Rodriguez, Michael Kay to host alternate 'Sunday Night Baseball' broadcast for ESPN
ESPN will have an alternative broadcast for "Sunday Night Baseball" in 2022, the New York Post reported Thursday night.
The companion broadcast will be hosted by Alex Rodriguez, who's spent the last few seasons as a "Sunday Night Baseball" analyst, and longtime New York Yankees play-by-play man Michael Kay, according to the Post's Andrew Marchand.
Per Marchand, the new "Sunday Night Baseball" main broadcast team will feature Karl Ravech on play-by-play and Eduardo Perez and David Cone, another former Yankee and YES Network employee, as analysts.
ESPN has had great success this season with its alternate broadcast of "Monday Night Football" featuring Peyton and Eli Manning. Marchand noted that the format for Rodriguez's and Kay's broadcast "has not been finalized" and that the duo are expected to host their telecast around 10-12 times during the baseball season.

Rodriguez recently became a part-owner of the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves, a fact Marchand said played into A-Rod not wanting to be in the "Sunday Night Baseball" booth every week. Rodriguez is also on the Baseball Hall of Fame ballot for the first time this year. He retired in 2016 following a brilliant – and controversial – career.
Major League Baseball is currently in the midst of a lockout – the league's first work stoppage since 1994-95 – that began in early December. The 2022 season is currently slated to start on March 31.
