Regular season comes to an end on gridiron

Oct. 11—Friday marks the final day of the high school football regular season. All teams have one last chance to notch a mark in the regular season win column and make the final tune-ups prior to sectional action beginning Oct. 20.

The lone home game for the local teams this week will be played at Greensburg. The Pirates (0-8) host conference and sectional rival Rushville (2-6) at 7 p.m. Friday.

In this match-up, the Lions have not defeated the Pirates since the 2018 season. The Pirates have a five game win streak (regular season and sectional) over Rushville. Greensburg hopes to keep the streak alive and pick up win No. 1 on the season.

The Pirate defense will be tested through the air as Rushville quarterback Nick Jarman has passed for 1,387 yards (173.4 ypg) through the first eight games. Chase Woolf (409 yards), Brayden Wilson (478 yards) and Ralph Eakins (361 yards) lead the Lion receivers.

Greensburg cannot overlook the ground attack by the Lions. Eight Lions have contributed to the 1,131 rushing yards this season. Harper Miller leads the way with 569 yards on the ground.

For the season, Rushville averages 314.8 total yards per game. Greensburg averages 111.1 total yards per game.

North Decatur

The Chargers (5-3) travel to Switzerland County (5-3) at 7 p.m. Friday. Even though both teams have the same overall record, North Decatur looks to be the favorite on paper.

The Chargers average 330 total yards per game while the Pacers average 135.4 total yards per game. Switzerland County averages 92.9 rushing yards per game. North averaged 210 yards rushing per game.

The Pacers are led by sophomore quarterback Alex Bailey. Sophomores Matthew Young (6.6 yards per carry) and Peyton Richards (7.0 yards per carry) lead the Pacers on the ground.

North had seven players with rushing yards in last week's 69-0 win over Edinburgh. Tyler Dean led the way with 114 yards.

South Decatur

The Cougars look to get back in the win column after a 49-7 loss at Milan last week. South Decatur (6-2) travels to Dayton Christian (Ohio) at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Warriors are 3-5 on the season. After opening the season with three straight losses, Dayton Christian won three straight. The Warriors have dropped their last two games.

In last week's loss to Shroder, Eli Manley led the Warriors with 67 yards rushing and 62 yards passing. Austin Sellers completed nine passes for 135 yards and a touchdown. Sellers passed for 301 yards two weeks earlier.

Corbin Johnson continues to be a big weapon for the Cougars. Johnson has rushed for 1,133 yards and 18 touchdowns this season. Quarterback Jaylynn McMurray has passed for 644 yards.

Isaac Gasper lead the South defense with 8.6 tackles per game. Tyler Bishop averages 6.1 tackles per game. Alex Myers leads the Cougars with four interceptions. Owen Arreola and Colby Rathburn both have two interceptions.

Batesville

The Bulldogs (7-1) travel to Connersville (2-6) for a 7 p.m. kickoff Friday.
