Regional hockey matchups revealed for Livingston County teams

All three Livingston County hockey teams have earned the No. 1 seed in their regions, the Michigan High School Athletic Association announced Sunday.

Brighton, Hartland and Howell are in separate Division 1 regionals, with the earliest either rival could meet another is the state quarterfinals.

The winner of Howell’s regional at Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing will face the winner of Hartland’s regional at Dort Federal Event Center in Flint at 4 p.m. March 2 at Munn.

Teams that earned a No. 1 seed don’t have to play a first-round game and avoid the No. 2 seed until the regional championship game.

Howell has the easiest path to a regional championship, with no state-ranked teams in its co-op-heavy region. The Eastside Stars (13-6-4), sponsored by Okemos, is the No. 2 seed.

Two of the top teams in Division 1 are in the regional in Flint. Third-ranked Hartland and fourth-ranked Clarkston are favored to meet for the regional title at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28.

If Brighton reaches a fourth state semifinal, the Bulldogs won’t have to leave their home rink. They host a regional that includes seventh-ranked Northville. The winner will play in a quarterfinal at Kensington Valley Ice House against the winner of a region that features No. 6 Livonia Stevenson and No. 8 Salem.
