Reese Fahys of East Greenwich wins Courage Award at All-State Rhode Island High School Sports Awards

Reese Fahys of East Greenwich High School won the Courage Award last week at the All-State Rhode Island High School Sports Awards.

This award honors greatness and strength that goes above and beyond the fields and courts.

Fahys arrived in East Greenwich from New Jersey surrounded by plenty of hype. In her first State Championship Cross Country Meet, she showed the praise was more than deserved. In her sophomore year, Fahys was one of the state’s best distance runners.

In her junior season, a leg injury changed everything and had Fahys wondering if she even wanted to anymore. Her battle back to full strength wasn’t easy, but it helped teach Fahys an important lesson about who she was an athlete and a person.

The All-State Rhode Island High School Sports Awards are part of the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards program, the largest of its kind in the nation with regional shows and now a national show later this summer.
