Recap: CU women’s basketball stays perfect after being tested by Oklahoma State

Usually, when discussing a tale of two halves, you aren’t only referring to the first and fourth quarters. If you just look at those two quarters of Sunday’s Colorado-Oklahoma State women’s basketball game, you would see a potential blowout as the Buffaloes won those quarters, 54-32. But in the second and third quarters, the Cowgirls outscored the Buffs, 43-32.

In the end, however, the only score that matters is the final, which went in favor of Colorado, 86-75. The Buffs are now 3-0 following a perfect first week to their 2023-24 season.

Colorado was up by eight after the first quarter, 24-16, before going ice cold as Oklahoma State’s shooters got hot. The Cowgirls won the second quarter, 23-11, and would shoot lights out from deep all afternoon, hitting 15 of their 28 attempts (58.3%). Both teams traded baskets in the third quarter and OSU held a three-point lead going into the fourth.

CU clamped down on the Cowgirls in the final quarter, outscoring OSU 30-16 to take control and get the win.

Junior guard Kindyll Wetta led the charge with her usual aggressive defense but she also added a scoring punch. After scoring only four points in CU’s first two games, Wetta exploded for 15 points off the bench on Sunday. Aaronette Vonleh also had another great game, leading the Buffs with 18 points.

Colorado’s next game comes at SMU on Saturday at 7 p.m. MT.
