Reading Royals fire head coach James Henry

Jan. 29—Reading Royals head coach and director of hockey operations James Henry has been relieved of his duties, the team announced Monday.

"We thank James for his service with the team and we wish him the best in his future endeavors," Royals team president David Farrar said in a press release.

Assistant coach Jason Binkley will serve as Reading's interim head coach.

With 36 points in 39 games, the Royals currently sit in last place in the ECHL's North Division with a 16-19-4 record. Reading has won just three of its last 10 games and trails sixth-place Maine by three points.

After serving as an assistant coach with the team during the 2021-22 season, Henry was promoted to head coach ahead of the 2022-23 season. He led the Royals to a 41-25-6 record and a berth in the Kelly Cup playoffs, where Reading fell to Newfoundland in the second round.
