RCTC bounces back to turn back Fergus Falls

Feb. 17—FERGUS FALLS, Minn. — The top-ranked Rochester Community and Technical College women's basketball team rebounded from a loss in its previous outing to defeat Minnesota State-Fergus Falls 67-50 on Saturday.

The Yellowjackets, ranked No. 1 among Division III NJCAA teams, were coming off a rare loss, a 75-68 road setback to Minnesota West Community College on Wednesday. But they jumped out to a 20-9 lead after one quarter against Fergus Falls and led 37-21 at the half.

Janae Bennett led a balanced RCTC attack with 16 points while Kara Goetzinger had 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Macaya Copeland and Jada James both just missed a double-double. Copeland had 13 points and nine assists while James notched 12 points and nine rebounds. James also had four steals while Copeland added three.

The Yellowjackets (19-3) controlled the boards 34-25. RCTC shot 45.2% from the floor (28-for-62) while Fergus Falls shot 34.7% (17-for-49).

RCTC is now 10-1 in South Division play of the MCAC. Fergus Falls falls to 11-10, 5-5 in division play.

The Yellowjackets conclude regular-season play when they host Anoka-Ramsey Community College at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21. They begin region/state play the following week.
