Everybody's favourite fixer Ray Donovan is officially returning for a sixth season – but there's more.

Because not only has the popular crime-turned-family-drama been renewed by US network Showtime, it's also being relocated to New York City.

According to TVLine, the sixth instalment of the Liev Schreiber-fronted series will kick off production in early 2018, before debuting its 12 new episodes later that year.

And Ray Donovan, which has been set in Los Angeles for the past five seasons, is set to be more "exciting" than ever before now that it has a new home.

Explaining why moving to NYC makes sense "creatively" following the death of Ray's wife Abby, showrunner David Hollander promised "new challenges" for Ray.

"Fashion, media, finance, theatre, culture. It's going to present new challenges for Ray which means new opportunities for us as dramatists," he said in a statement.

"Ray came to Los Angeles to build a life for himself and his family. They're not there anymore. Ray's career has changed and he is looking for a place to rebuild his life."

Teasing another heavy season ahead, Hollander also hinted that Ray is heading to New York "to help himself".

The current season of Ray Donovan concludes this Sunday (October 29) on Showtime over in the US. Sky Atlantic airs the show in the UK.
