Ravens QB Lamar Jackson officially names deadline for initial contract extension talks

The Baltimore Ravens are heading into their Week 1 matchup against the New York Jets. It’s an important season for many, including quarterback Lamar Jackson. The fifth-year player is looking to bounce back after a rough end to the 2021 season, but there’s been plenty made about his contract situation.

When asked about his contract deadline, Jackson was direct and had this to said that he and the team are still talking, and the week isn’t over yet. However he said the deadline will be soon, and things will probably be cut off after the week is over.

“As of right now, we’re still talking. The week isn’t over yet, but soon. Soon will probably be the deadline, it will probably be cut off after this week.”

Jackson later clarified that the deadline would be Friday.

“Kickoff, I will not be talking about a contract. (laughter)I’m thinking straight Jets around kickoff time. (Reporter: “What is the deadline in your mind?)The end of this week. The end of this week … Friday. Friday.”

Making sure Jackson is signed long-term would give the organization and fans a sense of relief knowing that he’ll be staying in Baltimore for the foreseeable future. Hopefully both sides can work on something, but if not talks will be tabled on Friday with them presumably being picked up again after the season.
