Ranking NHL arenas from oldest to newest: Madison Square Garden to Climate Pledge Arena

Which NHL arenas are the oldest? Which are the newest?

Take a look at each NHL team's current arena, ranked from oldest to newest, based on the season that the team first played in it (or for the Utah NHL team, the year the arena opened).

There are 21 current NHL arenas that were constructed prior to the 2000-01 season. The historic home of the New York Rangers, Madison Square Garden, the oldest venue in the league and the Calgary Flames' Scotiabank Saddledome the second oldest.

The Rangers started playing at Madison Square Garden in the 1967-68 season. The Flames began playing at the Scotiabank Saddledome in the 1983-84 season.

Eleven current NHL arenas started being used in the 2000-01 season or later. Climate Pledge Arena, the home of the Seattle Kraken, and UBS Arena, the home of the New York Islanders, are the newest arenas.

Those teams started playing there in the 2021-22 season.

The Arizona Coyotes' previous arena, Mullett Arena at Arizona State University, opened in 2022. The Coyotes' arena before that in Glendale, now called Desert Diamond Arena, opened in 2003. The franchise was relocated to Utah last month.
