There's any number of Randall players you could choose for Athlete of the Week. Josh Bass of Bushland and a number of Nazareth Swifts are worthy of the honor as well.

But you have to give it to the guy who threw his second no-hitter of the season.

Haffner was sensational on the mound on a day in which the Raiders desperately needed it. The offense struggled for much of the first playoff game against Hereford. But Haffner kept the Herd at bay, walking one batter and not allowing a single base runner otherwise in a no-hitter.

"I couldn't be more proud of Carson both on the field and in the classroom," Randall coach Cory Hamilton said. "He has worked extremely hard to get where he is today. His humility and 'team-first' mentality is inspiring. He knows that he has great teammates and is just trying his best to do his part."

With girls sports done for the year, this will be our final female Athlete of the Week. It's fitting we go out on such a deserving and outstanding player in Granados.

The Dumas Demonettes made the regional semifinal for the fourth time in school history last week, and almost made the regional finals for the first time ever, thanks in large part to Granados. She went 2-for-3 in game two after scoring a run in game one. She was most impressive in game three, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

In the end, the Demonettes came up just short, but it was still an All-State performance from an All-State player.

"Melaney has played a huge role in our playoff success," Dumas coach Carlyn Tolleson said. "She has been a leader and captain on the field. Melaney has been outstanding in the box and always comes up big for her team. She also does an amazing job at first every play. She is a true competitor and a joy to coach."
