Rams Fisher and Snead are NFL’s Thelma & Louise
There is an iconic sequence at the end of the movie Thelma & Louise that best describes the current state of Rams football. At the end of the movie, realizing they have nowhere left to run, the pair look at each other as Louise floors the Ford Thunderbird toward a deep canyon and their ultimate demise. They clasp hands as the car roars over the cliff to immortality.
In Los Angeles, head coach Jeff Fisher does a fine imitation of Sarandons’ Louise. Escaping trouble at every turn, as he and General Manager Les Snead leave a slew of wreckage in their wake. The two of them driving this franchise over a cliff to nowhere seems almost as scripted as the end of that gal-pal movie.
I know, I’m heavy on the metaphors, but forgive me for pointing out parallels of a great franchise like the Ford Thunderbird convertible and a once great NFL team in the Rams driven to their ultimate demise.
In Fisher and Snead, Hollywood has their own brand of Thelma & Louise. Both duo’s seem to share a destiny that offers no road back. For the Rams, being handcuffed to absolute mediocrity seems like a never ending story now five years running, and unless owner Stan Kroenke cuts this pair loose, what is the hope they find a jar of magic beans for the 2017 NFL season?
They won’t.
Just this week, after making a change at quarterback for rookie Jared Goff, Fisher was asked about a change at the OC position. To nobody’s surprise, he’s sticking with Rob Boras. The same Rob Boras who has authored the most predictable and unimaginative offense in the NFL. Granted the talent isn’t particularly deep on offense, but the Rams aren’t pumping a dry well either.
28 seconds and one timeout left and the Rams’ drive starts with a five-yard in.

Unless you’re speaking of Fisher as a coach, and THEN you’d only be stating the obvious.

Another gem from Fisher this week, courtesy of Eric D. Williams at ESPN:
“He did a really good job,” Fisher said. “No delay of games. He was in complete control in the huddle. He did a nice job on the line of scrimmage. I was disappointed in the outcome of the game, but you could see the light—there’s light there for him.”
Always the players coach, Fisher drills down to the silver linings by pointing out “no delay of games.” Tell me again why this team is 4-6? Perhaps there is light for Goff, but under the tutelage of Jeff Fisher, the lights are off in L.A.
Don’t expect them on anytime soon.
Thelma & Louise, Fisher & Snead.
Kindred spirits indeed.
