Raiders WR Hunter Renfrow is eligable for a contract extension

Hunter Renfrow has always been a good player for the Raiders. But he had a breakout season in 2021 as he became more of a focal point in the offense. He made the Pro Bowl after catching 103 passes for over 1,000 yards as the team’s leading receiver.

But now that the Raiders have acquired and paid big money to Davante Adams, can they afford to give Renfrow a big deal this summer?

In a recent article by ESPN, they named 28 players who should be receiving contract extensions soon. One of those players was Renfrow, who is set to become a free agent after the 2022 season. Here is what ESPN staff writer Jeremey Fowler had to say about Renfrow’s possible extension:

“One of the game’s premier slot receivers is a year from free agency, and the Raiders have proved aggressive so far under the Josh McDaniels-Dave Ziegler regime. Las Vegas expects to have some cap space freed up by June, so perhaps it digs in some time this summer.”

With so many receivers getting big contacts this offseason, it’s tough to figure out what exactly Renfrow’s value is going forward. He’s not a deep threat like Tyreek Hill and he’s not someone who can play on the outside like Davante Adams.

So how much do you pay a slot-only receiver who happens to be one of the best in the league at that position? That’s for Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels to figure out, but expect them to find a way to keep one of Derek Carr’s favorite weapons beyond the 2022 season.
