Raiders release veteran WR Willie Snead

The Raiders have moved on from one of their offseason acquisitions. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Raiders have released slot receiver Willie Snead.

The veteran receiver had fallen down the depth chart some this season and is now looking elsewhere for snaps.

Snead caught just three passes for the Raiders in seven games, totaling 32 yards. He’s played just 38 snaps on offense this season and with him being no higher than the No. 5 receiver on the depth chart, the Raiders decided to move on.

Snead signed a one-year deal this offseason with the Raiders after playing the last three years in Baltimore. His deal included a $137,500 signing bonus with $987,500 in guaranteed money.

With the Raiders using Hunter Renfrow in the slot, the team just didn’t have enough snaps available for the veteran receiver. Look for the Raiders to use his roster spot for a player that can contribute more on special teams over the next 11 games.

Snead is a vested veteran and is not subject to waivers. That means he can immediately sign with another team if offered. He should be able to find a home on the open market relatively quickly.
