What is Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo’s biggest weakness?

Every quarterback has a weakness. And yes, that includes Patrick Mahomes. But the key to being a successful quarterback is being able to hide or overcome said weakness.

Jimmy Garoppolo is far from a perfect quarterback, but he doesn’t have any glaring weaknesses either. He’s got a good arm, he’s athletic, and for the most part, he’s pretty accurate. So what’s his biggest weakness heading into the season?

In a recent article by Pro Football Focus, they took a look at every quarterback’s biggest weakness entering the 2023 season. For Garoppolo, his biggest question mark has been his durability. Here is what the site has to say about Garoppolo’s health entering the year:

The 49ers would have been well within their rights to go in search of an alternative option to Jimmy Garoppolo purely based on his injury history, and that dossier has only been added to since they traded up to draft Trey Lance.

Now the quarterback of the Raiders, Garoppolo has only once in his career made it through a full-season schedule without missing at least a game. He is capable of high-level play, but his own body is his biggest weakness as a player.

Whenever Garoppolo has been on the field, he tends to play at a high level and his teams win a lot. QB wins can be a very flawed stat, but his teams have a combined record of 40-17 with him under center.

If Garoppolo can stay healthy and continue to be his usual accurate self, the Raiders should field one of the best offenses in the league. But staying on the field has always been the biggest weakness for Garoppolo. If he can overcome that this season, he’ll give the Raiders an excellent chance of competing in the AFC this season.
