R&A tells LIV chief Greg Norman if he wants to attend Open Championship, check resale sites

Greg Norman is getting used to this.

Whether it's checking for the availability on Vivid Seats or standing outside Royal Troon with a sign that reads: I NEED TICKETS, the LIV leader will be forced, again, to pay his own way into a major.

Officials from the Royal & Ancient, which hosts The Open, confirmed this week that Norman is not on the list for the 152nd Open, according to several publications, and he's welcome to check "resales" sites if he wants to attend. The Open will be held July 18-21 at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland.

"I don't think there's a G. Norman (on the list)," R&A corporate communications director Mike Woodcock told reporters. "I think they would have let me know if there was. So I'm not aware that he's bought a ticket so far.

"Obviously, there are tickets still available on the resale platform or hospitality. He's very welcome to look there.'"

Norman, who lives in Palm Beach Gardens, runs the Saudi-backed league from his West Palm Beach offices. He won the Claret Jug in 1986 at Turnberry and 1993 at Royal St. George's, marking his two major championships.

Still, this is progress considering Norman was asked not to attend The 150th Open at St Andrews two years ago. But that was less than two months after LIV's inaugural event and before Saudi's Public Investment Fund, which finances LIV golf, and the PGA Tour announced in July a framework agreement to combine their business entities.

That agreement, though, still has not been finalized and the two leagues continue to act as rivals despite the ongoing negotiations.

Norman is getting used to looking on the resale market to attend golf's biggest events. Last month, The Shark was spotted outside the ropes at the Masters.

Norman told the Washington Post he was given a warm welcome by the spectators at Augusta National.

“Walking around here today, there’s not one person who said to me, ‘Why did you do LIV?’ ” Norman said.

“There’s been hundreds of people, even security guys, stopping me, saying, ‘Hey, what you’re doing is fantastic.’ To me, that tells you that what we have and the platform fits within the ecosystem, and it’s good for the game of golf.”
