Quincy Athletic Hall of Fame inducts Class of 2024

QUINCY – Quincy High School recently honored some of the absolute best to ever wear the orange and black, as they inducted three new individuals and one team into the Quincy Athletic Hall of Fame for the 2024 season.

The Quincy Athletic Hall of Fame induction class of 2024 is the twenty-first class that has been welcomed into the hallowed halls of Quincy Community Schools. To date, 92 individual athletes, teams, coaches, and community members have met the criteria for selection to the Quincy Athletic Hall of Fame and have been memorialized in the Athletic Hall of Fame Lobby for generations to see.

This year’s ceremony took place during halftime of the Quincy boys varsity basketball contest versus Sand Creek held on Jan. 26.

The Quincy Athletic Hall of Fame 2024 induction class included 1976 graduate Julie McClellan Hasten, 2017 graduate Hannah Economou Stahl, and 2018 graduate Bryce Ruhl into its ranks, along with the 1994-95 Quincy Oriole varsity boys' basketball team

Julie McClellan Hasten, a 1976 graduate of Quincy High School, starred in both basketball and volleyball at Quincy and may have been one of the first female multi-sport superstars. After the adoption of Title IX in 1972, girls’ athletics grew very quickly and McClellan Hasten was a pioneer in Oriole athletics for girls of all ages as she was one of the first and best multi-sport athletes to first compete at Quincy High School.

Class of 2017 graduate Hannah Economou Stahl is one of the most honored female athletes in the storied history of girl’s athletics at Quincy High School. Economou was a three-sport athlete excelling in basketball, volleyball and softball who rewrote the record book for Oriole softball thanks to her dominant pitching and hitting. Economou was honored with Big 8 All Conference honors in all three sports and was named conference Most Valuable Player for her work on the softball diamond. Economou went on to pitch at Concordia University.

Bryce Ruhl, class of 2018, is another all-round athlete who excelled in multiple sports, earning varsity letters in football, basketball, and track. In each sport he was an all-conference performer and was a State Champion in the long jump and also an all-state team member in the 4x100 relay as a senior. Ruhl currently holds the QHS record for most points earned in a track and field season. Ruhl went on to compete for the University of Detroit Mercy Track and Field team.

The final inductees on the night were the 1994-95 Oriole Men’s Basketball team. This group was the first basketball team to reach a Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) regional final tournament game. The Orioles provided exciting games throughout the season and set numerous records for individual and team performance for the 94-95 season. Team members included Kevin Undeen, Andy Beach, Travis Alexander, Stan Wise, Nate Stewart, Mark Nowicki, Chad Rodgers, Chris Stevens, Steve Bowers, Jeremy Thompson, Ben McKenzie, Josh Hilyard, and Jeff Bell. The team was coached by the legendary Chuck Cook, assisted by Larry Cassidy.
