Quentin Grimes enters COVID-19 protocols after career performance

New York Knicks rookie Quentin Grimes was added to the NBA’s health and safety protocols and will not play on Tuesday versus the Golden State Warriors, the team announced.

The timeline for Grimes to return to the court is not known but players entered into the health and safety protocols could miss up to 10 days. They can be cleared to play sooner if they return two consecutive negative PCR tests taken at least 24 hours apart.

The news comes just two days after Grimes hit a Knicks franchise rookie record seven 3-pointers en route to a career-high 27 points in a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. He earned the start in that contest with the Knicks down a few players.

The breakout performance by Grimes came as the 25th overall pick had played sparingly to begin the season. He was not part of the rotation for head coach Tom Thibodeau and had totaled just 24 points across 13 appearances prior to Sunday.

With Grimes out on Tuesday, the Knicks will also be without RJ Barrett and Obi Toppin as they were entered into the health and safety protocols on Sunday.
