Putnam West girls basketball coach Ja'Ron Jefferson leaving for Yukon boys coaching job

Ja’Ron Jefferson is leaving Putnam West after leading the girls basketball team to its first state title since 1981.

Yukon Public Schools named Jefferson the high school boys basketball coach Monday night after receiving board approval. Jefferson succeeds Kevin Ritter, who coached the Millers for seven seasons after serving as an assistant.

With Jefferson’s leadership, Putnam West finished the past season at No. 23 in ESPN’s SCNext national rankings of high school girls basketball teams. The Patriots went 27-1 and dethroned two-time defending champion Edmond North for the Class 6A state title. Da’Nae Jefferson, the coach’s sophomore daughter, led Putnam West with 12 points, including the winning free throw.
